Karina Jønson / Barbara Í Gongini – Dark & Secretive Universe exhibition
In a small gallery in the heart of Copenhagen, you’ll find the dramatic photography of Karina Jønson co-mingled with the avant-garde designs of Barbara Í Gongini decorating the walls. The exhibition is indeed dark and secretive with an appreciation for the androgynous and aesthetic. This week, Jønson resides at the gallery during the day. “We had just ended some work on Barbara’s web shop and weren’t sure what we wanted to do, so we decided to do a shoot where we were just playing. The model had free rein and received no instructions during shooting," says Jønson. She adds, “The makeup artist had a number of creative ideas." This creativity is interpreted through the model having been painted completely black and white while wearing Gongini’s gothic garments and an increasingly messy wig with blue nuances. “It was a process; throughout the pictures, the wig gets more and more messed up because the model just played around with it.”
